3 Reason to Stream to Multiple Platforms at Once

January, 2020

Why only take one if you can have two (or more!)? We are finding that doesn’t only apply to cookie consumption, but live video streaming as well. Streaming to a single platform is SOOOOO 2019, and in this new decade we recommend our clients take full advantage of all the players on the market and cast a wider net to get their message out.

You may ask why? Let us break it down for you:

REASON 1: Reach a wider audience.

The more people see your message, the more likely they are to share it and extend your exposure. Limiting yourself to one streaming service can limit your outreach potential. For a client of ours last week, Facebook Live was their delivery method of choice - easy to setup, free, and speaks directly to attendees that have already shown interest in their endeavors. One of the featured artists at the event was also interested in engaging their own cultivated fan-base and gathering separate metrics, so we recommended sending the same broadcast to their YouTube page simultaneously and adding watermarks for branding. Also free, and open to anyone on the internet without having to set up an account. It worked great, and they got double the amount of exposure for the event as a result.

The same can be applied to enterprise customers. Ever thought of streaming to your client base on social media, while still having your employees participate? BUT your site of choice is blocked on your corporate network? Without any extra equipment we can stream to your internal meeting software, such as Microsoft Teams, or to a full-service enterprise streaming platform, while also sending the same (or slightly altered) message to your clients publicly on social media. Keep everyone in the loop!

REASON 2: You get built-in redundancy!

Let’s be honest, streaming isn’t always a perfect science. It can have its moments, and Revent is always on the lookout to make sure there is a plan B, C and often D (one can never too prepared!). We can run multiple internet lines, have duplicate hardware on hand, double tape the wires and ensure everyone is properly caffeinated, however sometimes platforms and servers have “oops” moments. When you add another platform to the mix, that “oops” quickly becomes “hey guys, check out the stream over here instead!”. The likelihood of multiple streaming platforms having event-impacting issues at the same time is extremely rare, but the peace of mind it brings is worth it and redundancy has proven to be invaluable during worst case scenarios.

REASON 3: Did we mention its easy?

You may be thinking, this all sounds amazing, but let’s get real: how much does it cost, and how much extra work is there for me? That’s the best part, it’s as easy an addition as it gets! The encoding is handled on the software side, and a bandwidth test at the venue will determine the number of streams we can support without adding any extra equipment, setup or stress. If you’re looking to really get the word out and blast to every platform you can think of, there are simple solutions available to incorporate third party re-streaming at minimal cost. For our client multiple streams added no additional fees, and the less time spent worrying about the technical aspects meant more time for their guests as they arrived.
